American Standard’s Freedom 90’s model has a variable speed blower and draft inducer motor with intelligence. Meaning, it varies its speed depending upon your home’s heating requirements. Comparing this to your old furnace is like comparing a cell phone from 2005 with one from 1995.
The system also runs much quieter than the older systems. During continuous fan operation, the blower operates at 50% of cooling airflow. Thus, sound is minimized. This variable speed feature also delivers greatly improved air quality for your home. How? A slower fan speed means more unwanted particles cling to the filter.

Wait. There’s more. Most conventional furnaces allow for a temperature swing of 3-5 degrees before turning on or off. They operate with only one speed: full blast. The Freedom 90 system has what’s called “two-stage heating”. This eliminates short cycling, which costs you a lot of money on your utility bills.

Your Freedom 90 unit operates about 95% of the time on the first stage. This delivers more even and continuous heating. It only switches to the second stage (high heat) when absolutely necessary. So, while the system may operate for longer than your present furnace, it uses a lot less energy.
